He was predeceased by: his parents, Avery "Red" McClanahan and Bea McClanahan (Yates); his daughter Becky Vandyke; his nephew David Lutes; his parents-in-law, Marie and Harold Copeland; and his sister Dolores (Walter George).

He is survived by: his wife Judy Copeland; his children, Sharon Mullins (Anthony) and Ryan Keith McClanahan (Mary Beth); his son-in-law Mitchell Vandyke; his sisters, Dr. Charlene Lutes and Janet McMahon (Mike); his sister-in-law Shirley Havlik; and his grandchildren, Jordan Randolph, Alex VanDyke, Avery Tyler McClanahan and Emma Grace McClanahan.
