He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Atkinson and Mary Atkinson; and his sister Glenna Fitzgerald. He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah Haynes, Lisa Whitescarver (Todd) and Amanda Atkinson; his siblings, Josephine Spicer, Elwood Atkinson, Ronnie Atkinson and Anita Cooper; his grandchildren, Tarah Milliron (John), Natalie Wolters (Tom), Alyce Carlin (Ben), Derek Whitescarver (Anna Kate), Samantha Austin (Mike) and Abby Phillips (Tyler); his great grandchildren, Andrew, Giuliana, Caroline Milliron, Emery, Ella Wolters, Addison Carlin, Cicely and Boone Whitescarver; and his close friend Scott McCoy.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home (305 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, VA 24153).
