He was predeceased by: his parents, Preston Dowdy and Edith Dowdy; his wife Goldie Goodman Dowdy; and his siblings, John Lewis Dowdy, Joseph Dowdy, Frances D. Gibson and Adele D. Crews.
He is survived by: his children, Sherry Dowdy Brady and John "Jay" Dowdy (Genia); his grandchildren, Katie (Tyler), Matt (Sara), Ashley (Nick) and Reed; his great grandchildren, Isaac and Isabel; and his sister Rachel D. Hamlett.
