He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Thomas Lawson and Berter Cornelius Turner Lawson; and his siblings, Carroll, Campbell, Hiram, Alton Lawson and Maxine Moon.
He is survived by: his wife Zelia Marie Shifflett Lawson; his daughters, Kim Strong (Bill) of Cary and Joy Woolard (Allen) of Richmond; his grandchildren, Jenny Hofler (Chip) of Apex, Mitchell Strong (Jessica) of Durham, Kristen Woolard of Reston and Hannah Woolard of Richmond; and his great grandchildren, Callie, Ryder and Scarlett Hofler of Apex.
