She was predeceased by: her parents, Otey Taylor Claiborne, Sr. and Dicie McCarty Claiborne; her husband Clarence; and her siblings, Eva Spessard (Sam), Nancy Alma Claiborne, O. T. Claiborne, Jr. (Ruth), Claude (Sara Bet), Curtis (Loraine), Charlie (Beatrice) and Alex (Glenadine).
She is survived by: her sons, Dr. Bill Childress (Betsy) and Dr. Greg Childress (Susan); her grandchildren, Justin, Meredith of Ooltewah, Elizabeth, Merryn and Ruby Cate Childress of Richmond; and her siblings, Katherine Smith of Kingsport and Dr. Burgin E. Claiborne (Anne) of Memphis. She is also survived by in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
When Alzheimer's disease affected her safety and well-being, she moved to The Bridge at Ooltewah, an assisted living residence near her oldest son.
