LaVelma Hughes Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of LaVelma Hughes of Round Hill, Virginia, born in Detroit, Michigan, who passed away on December 3, 2022, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Jennie Sutton and Clifton Thompson; her spouse Jennie; her son Jeffrey L. Hughes; her daughter-in-law Sheree A. Hughes; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Jessica, Eryn and Benjamin.
Lou would have welcomed any memorial contributions to early childhood literacy, the Association for Women in Science, the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology & Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary, the Cornell Botanic Gardens – or, simply taking a walk together with a child or friend and marveling at the world.
