He was predeceased by: his parents, John Calvin and Mary Flora Simmons; his stepfather Wilfred Jacob Simmons; his former wife Elinor Louise Simmons; his son David Brooks; his grandson Dagan Brooks; his siblings-in-law, Pamela Simmons, Bill Donohoe and Barry Hodges; and his nieces, Kayla Simmons and Destiny Hodges.
He is survived by: his wife Katherine Simmons; his stepchildren, Mary and Ron; his granddaughter Megan Brooks (Michael); his great grandchildren, Alayna and Jaden; his siblings, Linda Donahoe, Marie Simmons, Jean Bayer, Henry Simmons (Beth), David Simmons (Beth), Bonnie Hodges, Carl Simmons and Vera Johnson (Daryl); and his aunts, Geraldine Price, Leevene Witcher and Shirley Witcher. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Flora Funeral Chapel (665 S Main St, Rocky Mount, VA 24151). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, Michael's request was for donations to be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Wirtz, VA or Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke, VA.
