He was predeceased by: his son Carl Stephen Gaines; his parents, Thomas Newton Gaines, Jr. and Maxine Gaines (Bailey); and his sister Cathy Hayden. He is survived by: his wife Yvonne Gibson Gaines; his daughter-in-law Susan Musser; and his grandsons, Thomas and Bradley Gaines.
