In loving memory of Rankin Thompson Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia, who departed this world on January 19, 2025 at the age of 83. Rankin leaves behind a legacy remembered by family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though Rankin may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Rankin touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Audrey Thompson Holt (Max Memory Holt) and George R. Thompson Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Janet; his children, Shawn Hecker (Chuck), Rhonda Mills (Dale), Cheryl Moore and Mark Lord (Susan); and his pet Birdie. He is also survived by five sisters; two brothers; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Oakey's South Chapel (4257 Brambleton Ave, Cave Spring, VA 24018). A funeral service was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
The family requests that donations can be made to the PSP/CBD Foundation in Rankin's memory.
