He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward Eaton (Jim) and Wilda Smith Eaton (Billie); his former wife Ann Cline Eaton; and his brother Daniel "Danny" Eaton of Norfolk, VA.. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Shupe Eaton of Roanoke, VA; his children, James Frederick Eaton Jr. (J. Fred) of Salem, VA, Jodi Eaton-Heins of Tampa, FL and Heidi Williams (Philip) of Youngsville, NC; his stepson Michael Atkins (Teresa Barie) of Charlotte, NC.; his grandchildren, Kimberly, R. J., Dakota, Jasmine, Brian, Shane, Ashley Eaton, Olivia, Julia Heins, Megan Argabright and Taylor Williams; and his great grandchildren, Bentley, Laura, Ellamae, Nevaeh, Troy, Isla, Raelynn, Damon, Rylei and Anastasia Argabright.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, earmarked for the Appalachian Service Project, in his memory.
