He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Morrison Hodnett and Dorothy Bane Hodnett; his former wife Linda Cullop Hodnett; his sister Nancy Eanes; and his stepson Ricky Allen Soyars.
He is survived by: his wife JoAnne Soyars Hodnett; his children, Samuel M. Hodnett, Jr., Steve M. Hodnett and Synthia M. Hodnett; his stepdaughters, Sheila Echols, Tammy Wilson and Kimberly Hudson; and his siblings, Jack Hodnett and Lanna Kent. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
