It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Charlie Gwynn Purnell (Ringgold, Virginia), who passed away on December 29, 2022, at the age of 65, leaving to mourn family and friends. He is survived by: his children, Shane Purnell (Maria) and Mary Walker (Reginald) of Keeling; his siblings, Lawrence Purnell (Eddie) of Yanceyville, NC, Donald Wayne Purnell of Yanceyville, NC, Doris Jones (David) of Yanceyville, NC and Jettie Smith of Yanceyville, NC; his grandchildren, William Shelton, Michael Purnell Jr., Courtney Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Jasmine Walker and Rashawn Walker; and his niece Christine Purnell (Gwynn). He is also survived by other nieces and nephews.

“Charlie was my husband’s roommate at Pelican . When I visited my husband , Gary , Charlie would often join our conversation . He seems to enjoy joking and kidding around with others . Just a few days ago , our son Patrick brought Charlie some cans of Mountain Dew . He said Charlie wasn’t in the room so he left them on his bed . I was looking forward to seeing him again but God had others plans for Charlie . Rest in peace our friend . Gary and Deborah Evans”
