He was predeceased by: his parents, Lertie Simmons and Minnie Simmons; his wife Beatrice King Simmons; and his siblings, George Simmons, William Simmons, John Ray Simmons, Nannie Lou Brumfield and Ethel Simmons.
He is survived by: his daughter Peggy; his son-in-law Gary Linkous of Blacksburg; his granddaughter Jennifer (Jason Scott) of McCoy; his great grandchildren, Skylar Scott and Lyla Scott; his nephew Richard (Collen Simmons) of Riner; and also, Carolyn, Ron Winfrey of Bluefield, WV, Janet and Jim Caldwell of Christiansburg.
