He was predeceased by: his parent Veola Theresa Black (Moore); his wife Mary Rives Black (Ogilvie); his father Perry Black; his sister Margaret "Peg" Means; and his in-laws, Marie and Eugene Ogilvie.
He is survived by: his children, Patty (Doak Barnhardt) and Rob (Julie Black); his granddaughters, Mary Rives Batchelor (Andrew) of Charlotte, NC, Claire Barnhardt of New York, NY, Marianne Black of Baltimore, MD and Sarah Black of Richmond; his great grandchild Mary Claire Batchelor of Charlotte, NC.; his sister-in-law Sarah Shelton (Bob) of Richmond; and his nieces and nephews, Brian Cockrill of Richmond, John "Jack" Means, Jr. of Washington, D. C., Nancy Means of Memphis, Jenny Blackwood of Dallas and Lesley M. Pryor of Dallas Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Reveille United Methodist Church (4200 Cary Street Rd, Richmond, VA 23221).
