She was predeceased by: her husband Woodrow P. Newton Jr. "Woody"; and her siblings, Dorothy Nichols (Eugene), Mildred Elizabeth Garrett Vaughan (Bob), Gladys Hazel Garrett, Jean Garrett Henry (Bill), Virginia Garrett Steger (Charles), James Edward Garrett (Mildred) and Thomas Nelson Garrett.

She is survived by: her sons, Stephen P. Dunaway (Becky) and Troy Dean Dunaway (Denea); and her pets, Baleigh and Katie Belle. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Nelsen Funeral Home (4650 S Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23231). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
