He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Conner Flippen; his son Stewart Garland Flippen; his grandchildren, Christopher Stewart Flippen and Catherine Bammel Flippen; his sister Joyce Flippen Nash (Ronald Nash); his nephew Armistead Nash (Larkin); his great-nephews, Oliver and Henry Nash; his sister Cabell Goolsby West (John); his nephew John West (Rose); his brother Allen Cunningham Goolsby (Louanna); his nieces, Adelaide, Anne Gibboney Huske and Isobel Kyle Huske; and his parents-in-law, Jack, Lilliboo Cronley, Ben, Susie Rawles, Shep, Gigi Miller, Marika Rawles, Dr. Jamie, Robin Rawles, Dr. Gordon, Marie Rawles, Cristy Jarvis, Margaret, Steve Gentil, Mary Conner, Rusty and Cindy Conner.
He was a member of the Chamberlayne Society of St. Christopher's School and Treasurer of the Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation.
