With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Charles David Sands Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, who passed away on March 30, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Though his name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Charles David leaves upon the hearts of his loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of his spirit and the richness of his legacy.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles David Sands, Sr. and Frances Dimmick Sands. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Schneider Sands; his sons, Charles David Sands, III (Nicole Deitz Sands) and Matthew Austin Clark Sands; his grandsons, Charles David Sands, IV and Thomas Arthur Sands; his sister Kathryn Margaret Sands; and his sister-in-law Lynn Schneider Wells (William E. Wells). He is also survived by three nieces and their children.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bliley's Central Chapel (3801 Augusta Ave, Richmond, VA 23230). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Bliley's Funeral Home (3801 Augusta Ave, Richmond, VA 23230).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher's School, 711 St. Christopher's Rd., Richmond, VA 23226 or to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030.

“Ellen, David, Austin. We were so sorry to hear that David passed away. Our condolences and hope your shock, sadness is replaced in time with all the good memories. Makes me glad David Jr. / I talked+caught up on the phone recently. So many great times over 6 decades...with trips to Richmond, including Billy discovering Zelda with David/Austin (and David, Kathy and parents visiting Delaware)...too many to list here.
