He is survived by: his wife Hailey Pylman Vap; his parents, James Gordon Vap and Jeanne Robertson Vap of Chevy Chase, Maryland; his sister Melissa Vap Leggett (Matt Leggett); his nieces and nephews, Murielle, Georgiana, Cressida of Chevy Chase and James Gordon Vap II (Gordie); and his children, Jake, Will, Sophie and Charlotte.

“Dear Vap Family, We are heartbroken that we can’t be there to comfort you for your loss of Alex. I have wonderful memories of Alex as a very young boy in California chasing a ball around and around the driveway with a hockey stick.. Perhaps it was that drive that drove him to accomplish more in his very short life than most would in a lifetime. It is 8:30 A.M. here in California. Alex’s funeral has just started in Virginia.
