He was predeceased by: his father James Arthur; his wife Clara Vance Hess; his son William Reese Hess, Jr.; his siblings, James Arthur Hess, Jr., Howard R. Hess, George P. Hess, John Marvin Hess, Harry L. Hess, Nanola "Nance" Hess, Betty Stevens and Jane Hurt; and his grandparents, John S., Nannie Brown Horton, John H. and Martha Stump Hess.
He is survived by: his son John K. Hess of Richlands, Virginia.; his grandson J. Brady Hess of Richmond, Virginia; his girlfriend Hayley Allison of Richlands, Virginia.; his sister Helen Hess of Richlands, Virginia.; his daughter-in-law Lynnette Hess of Newport News, Virginia; and his sister-in-law Peggy Hess (Virginia A) of Richlands. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
