He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Van Dyke and Sue Van Dyke; and his wives, Mary Anne Van Dyke and Joyce Kanode Van Dyke. He is survived by: his sister Bettye Van Dyke Childers (Reginald) of Lebanon, Virginia.; his daughters, Susanna Van Dyke Hart of Roanoke and Marsha Van Dyke Bowen (Scott) of Moneta, Virginia.; and his grandchildren, Adam Hart (Natalie), Mary Anne Holdren (Levi), Jason Herndon II (Amber), William Tarter III and Bowen Tarter. He is also survived by great-granddaughters.
