He was predeceased by: his parents, William Leonard Hale and Ruth Jackson Hale; his son Jimmy Hale; and his stepdaughter Angela Lester. He is survived by: his wife Billie Jean Martin Hale; his children, Leonard Hale of Richlands, VA and Rhonda Hale of Richlands, VA; his stepchildren, Dexter Jackson (Laura) of Pleasant Garden, NC, Matthew Martin of Lexington, NC, Mark Martin of Lexington, NC and Delana Mitchell; and his daughter Martha Byrd. He is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; ten brothers and sisters and best friend.
A memorial service was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church (101 E Park Ave, Lexington, NC 27292).
