He was predeceased by: his parents, George Teddy Helm (Fred) and Pauline Akers Helm; his wife Evelyn Keatley; and his siblings, George, Thomas, Vergie and James.
He is survived by: his sons, Stuart Helm (Sherry) of Rich Creek and David Helm (Connie) of Riner, Virginia; his grandchildren, Paula Allen, Adam Helm (Rachel) of Newport, Erin Stanley (Josh) of Austin, Nathaniel Helm (Danielle) of Athens and Kaitlan Inglett (Ben) of Colbert, Georgia; his great grandchildren, Senior Airman Seth Burks (Ariel), Airman Jacob Helm, Josh Burks, Emma Allen, Enan Helm, Aliza Helm, Jaxon Mosco, Theo Stanley and Blythe Stanley; his siblings, Betty Weddle and Teddy Helm (Dreama); and his brother-in-law Ed Mandeville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and many close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Howard's name to the Giles Health and Family Center (701 Wenonah Ave., Pearisburg, VA 24134).
