He was predeceased by: his parents, Powell Lawson (Bay) and Clara Helbert Lawson; his brothers, Stevie Powell Lawson, Jimmy Kenneth Lawson and Wayne Allen Lawson; and his son-in-law David Elswick.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Lawson; his daughters, Melissa Renee Elswick, Sharon Lynn Cook (Yancy) and Jennifer Annette Light (Adam); his siblings, Bill Lawson (Sissy), Earnest Lawson (Louise), Linda Barry, Judy Ford, Tena Damron (Bobby) and Kathy Hoops (Peanut); his sister-in-law Missy Lawson; and his grandchildren, Amanda Elswick (Matt), Shada Cook, Corey Light, Cody Elswick (Kayla), Tonoka Moore (Tommy), Katie Phillips (Zac) and Megan Cook. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
