Buford Lawrence Byrd, 82 years of age of Raven, VA, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Clinch Valley Medical Center. Born December 8, 1938 in Pilgrims Knob, VA, he was the son of the late Dee and Pearl Horn Byrd.
Buford was a retired coal miner having worked over forty years in the mines and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed watching old westerns, traveling and spending time with his family especially his grand babies. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Regina Diles, sisters Agnes Johnson, and Emma Hinds, and Ocie Permann.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years Evelyn Keen Byrd of Raven, VA; daughter Krissi Keen and husband James of Oakwood, VA; sons Michel Byrd and wife Brenda of Cedar Bluff, VA, Billy Byrd and wife Linda and Jerry Byrd and fiancé Wendy all of Raven, VA; sisters Trula Hardy and Mary Johnson both of GA; brothers Riley Byrd and wife Marie of Cedar Bluff, VA, Arlin Byrd and wife Ellen of Bandy, VA, Charlie Byrd and wife Avis of WV, Hubert Byrd and wife Ruby of Raven, VA.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Destiny Byrd, Brandon Byrd, Bobby Byrd, Kara Keen and Hadlei Keen; great grandchildren Logan Byrd, Naomi Plumber and Ovella Byrd; several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Thursday, September 16th after 6:00 p.m.
Funeral service for Buford Lawrence Byrd will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Keen Mountain, VA, Friday, September 17, 2021 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Doug Baldwin, Pastor JR Elswick and Pastor Kenneth Byrd officiating. Entombment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memory Gardens, Richlands, VA.
Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.
