He was predeceased by: his mother Lettie DeHart; his wife Margie Sue Divers DeHart; his children, Johnny Lee and Teresa; and his grandson Paul.
He is survived by: his children, Sandra (James Simpkins), Peggy (Garland Alderman) and James "Jed"; his daughter-in-law Dana DeHart of Radford; and his grandchildren, Cherie, Stacey, India, Nicole, Drew, Dylan, Sherry and Jessica. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
