He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Henry and Margaret Elizabeth Schnell (Kovacs); and his brother Richard Schnell (Peggy). He is survived by: his wife Brenda Freeze Schnell of Pulaski; his daughters, Lee Anne Stimpson of Lewisville, NC and Kristen Powell (Jason) of Statesville, NC.; and his grandchildren, Joseph Stimpson, Jacob Powell, Janna Powell and Jessica Powell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia.
