He was predeceased by: his parents, Ervin Helms and Nora Helms; and his siblings, Ervin, Rudy, Richard, James, Samuel Helms, Dorothy Fulks, Maxine Wren, Phyllis Humphries and Pamela Clay.
He is survived by: his wife Lelia Helms; his children, Jeffrey Helms (Laura), Randy Helms (Debbie), Johnny Helms (Tammy), Larry Helms (Teri), Beverly Amburgey and Cindy Carroll (David); and his sister-in-law Hilda Helms. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
