He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene B. Gates and Madeline R. Gates; his wife Evelyn Marie Gates; and his sister Joan Graboski. He is survived by: his children, Rebecca "Becky", Joseph and Patricia "Tricia"; and his siblings, William, Ronald, Betty, Nancy, Leo, Patrick, Kenneth, Linda and Shirley. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
