She was loved and cherished by many people including: her grandmother Shirley Brown Johnson; her mother Blanche Gillis; her grandson Rashad Brown; her brothers, William "Sonny" Cleveland, John "Jackie" and Clinton "Hoodie" Gillis; her children, Cheryl Brown-Fields (Walter), Danita Brown, Tanya Ross (Kevin) and Wallace "Mel" Brown, Jr. (Alisa); her grandchildren, Rahmel Brown (Fonseca), Kennedy, Karrington Ross, Tianna and Alexandra Mondrey; her great grandchildren, Alyssa Wood, Sha, Diamond, Daja Gregory, Layla, Samaiya Johnson, Nadiya and Kaleigha Mondrey; and her siblings, Linwood Gillis (Margaret), Zane Johnson (Melinda), Jeanette Patrick, Dorine, Francis Gillis, Pam Crump, Alisa Brown and Rhonda Scott. She was also cherished by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Following her retirement, she continued her housekeeping work in addition to lovingly caring for her granddaughters until Alzheimer's prevented her from doing so.
