He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Joan "Coonie" Donovan; and his children, Sandy Donovan of Powhatan, Debbie Blevins (Bill) of Powhatan and David Donovan of Richmond. He was also cherished by two brothers, four sisters, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
