He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Clarence Spivey and Emma Louise McKenney Spivey; his son John Robert Spivey, Jr.; his grandchildren, J. Patrick Mott, II and Josephine Mott; and his siblings, Allen Spivey, Jane Cuneo and Betty Hornstein.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Nyman Spivey; his children, Roger Spivey (Wendy), Kimberly Mule' and Alison Spivey; his grandchildren, Emily Arnold, Christopher Spivey, Aleksa Mule', Reese Mule', Ella Mule', Camille Mule' and Victoria Pultz; and his siblings, Nancy Hayes, Gracie Laplace (Stuart), Mildred Rogers, Dorothy Rickman, Willie Spivey (Dale), Charles Spivey (Penny) and Joe Spivey (Audrey). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
