He was predeceased by: his parents, James Alvin Setterholm Sr. and Frances Lucille Simmons; his sister Ann Lee Taylor; and his brother-in-law Billy Tinsley. He is survived by: his wife Pamela; his children, Melissa Anne Setterholm, Krystle Setterholm Hester (Rodney), Alyssa Anne Palmer, James "Landen" and Braedon Lee Hester; and his siblings, Carolyn Tinsley, Peyton H. Roden Jr. (Stacie) and Edwin C. Roden (Melissa). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
