Ferraba Irene (Back) Smith Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ferraba Irene (Back) Smith (Powhatan, Virginia), born in Middlebrook, Virginia, who passed away on June 18, 2021, at the age of 86. Ferraba Irene Smith was born on April 30, 1935 in Swoope, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert James Smith, Jr.; her mother, LulaBell Moore Back; her father, Samuel Henry Back; two brothers, Norwood Eugene Back and Jerry Lee Herbaugh; and sister, Stella Isabelle Back Floyd. She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Smith Whitaker; one grandson, Kenneth Wayne Whitaker, Jr. (Tanya); three great granddaughters, Katlyn Marie Whitaker Hughes (Jeffrey), Jessica Lynn Jack, and Tawnei Annlyn Whitaker; one great grandson, Cole Ryan Whitaker; two great great granddaughters, Layla Ann Whitaker and Adalynn Jean Hughes; sister, Joann Back Atkinson; sister, Carolyn Herbaugh Myers (James); and sister-in-law, Donna Herbaugh along with many nieces and nephews.
She taught Sunday School at Hobson’s Chapel UMC where she also served as Superintendent of Sunday School. She attended John Tyler Community College where she took classes on Child Care and worked for over 21 years as a day care worker at Wee Care Day Care and later at LaPetite Day Care. When her health allowed she loved bowling and golf. Most importantly she was a child of God, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother (MurMur) and a great great grandmother.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21st 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel (1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113). A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 25th 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens (12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23238).
