He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Barnette and Hazel Barnette; his brothers, Jimmy and Charlie Barnette; and his granddaughter Savannah Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Barnette; his close friend Elizabeth Bentley; his daughters, Jessie Barnette of Pound and Michelle Williams (Leeray) of Appalachia; his adoptive children, Matthew, Hannah and Haley Barnette of Norton; his grandchildren, Raymond (Haley), Dustin, Jazmyne, Mikey, Justus, Destiny and Shyann; and his siblings, Mary Stallard of St. Paul, Barbara Edwards (Johnny) of Haysi, Carolyn Coeburn (Larry) of Norton, Ronald Barnette (Louise) of Coeburn and Gary Barnette of Coeburn. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
