He was predeceased by: his grandmothers, Ruth Barker, Ruth B. Sturgill of Pound and Virginia; and his father E. Carl Sturgill (Lucy Sturgill). He is survived by: his son Christopher (Aela) of Oswego, NY; his mother Nancy Sturgill of Wise; his son Dalton Lee Sturgill; his stepchildren, Zach Hughes of Land and Brandi Hughes of Greensboro, NC; and his siblings, Kevin Sturgill (Krystal), Kimberly Deur, Kelli Sturgill Hall (Paul) of Wise and Cari Sturgill Braddock (Jack Mooney) of Norton, VA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
