It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bishop John H. Colander of Portsmouth, Virginia, who passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Bishop Obadiah and Dejohnnie Colander (Ricks); and his siblings, Alethia Colander Stokes, Harlena Colander, Rudolph Colander (Linda) and Ralph Colander (Elizabeth).
He is survived by: his stepmother Bernadine Colander; his wife Hortense Parker Colander; his siblings, Alfred Colander, Sr. (Jeanette), Dwayne Miller (Yolanda), Joseph Colander, Barbara Green (Willie) and Rita Turner; his aunt Harlena McGee; his grandchildren, Randolph D. Ross, Jr., Jonah Ross, Krisjon J. Clark, J. Ross and Christian J. Clark (Kyrsten Clark); and his godsons, Steve Green and Vandell Frazier. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
