He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Melvin and Mazie Sawyers Simpson; his siblings, Ethel Irene Simpson Slate and Charles Simpson; and his parents-in-law, Frank D. and Bertha Marion Chilton.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Chilton Simpson; his daughter Emily; his son-in-law Jason Settle of Pilot Mountain; his grandson Hunter Faw of Pilot Mountain; his brother Ray Melvin Simpson, Jr. of Mount Airy; his sister-in-law Kay Chilton Draughn of Dobson; and his close friends, Jerry, Brenda Gordon of Winston-Salem, Terry and Sue Mills of Mount Airy.
