He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Nickels and Ruthie Mae Dawson Nickels; his former wife Bonnie Sullivan Nickles; and his siblings, Beulah Matney and Gene Nickels.
He is survived by: his fiancée Rita Hale of Pilgrims Knob, VA; his daughters, Tamsy Rife (Mark) of Pilgrims Knob, VA and Drema Rife of Oakwood, VA; his stepchildren, Hilda Lester of Drill, VA and Hale of Honaker, VA; his sisters, Freda Colley (Frank) of Vansant, VA, Margaret Looney of Breaks, VA and Helen Rasnake (Doug) of Abingdon, VA.; and his brother-in-law George Looney of Vansant, VA. He is also survived by six step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
