He is survived by: his close friend Wyonella Campbell; his children, Rochester Jr. of Connecticut, Tyrone of Connecticut, Carroll Avery of Connecticut, Leonard Avery of South Carolina, Zelder Jefferson (Michael) of Petersburg, LaTandra Jackson (Robert) of Chester and Inger Jackson (Jeffrey) of Prince George; and his siblings, William (Christine) of Petersburg, Walter of Petersburg, Louis Avery of Petersburg, Ethel Harwell (Walter) of Maryland, Sylvia Russell of North Carolina and Helen Bush of Petersburg. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
