It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan L. Merritt (Petersburg, Virginia), who passed away on December 14, 2022, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her mother Juanita Jackson; her stepfather Clyde Walker, Sr.; her aunt Annie Stewart; and her great grandchild Jasiah Rives. She is survived by: her husband Howard L. Merritt; her son Quinn Merritt; her grandchildren, Keyasha Taylor, Vonkeia Lewis and JaQuan Rives, Sr.; her great grandchildren, Keymora, Caron Jr., Camron, JaQuan Jr. and Skylar; her siblings, Clifton Jackson, Terrie Townsend (Robert), Fay Jackson, Maurice Jackson, Robert Walker Sr. (Angela), Quinn Walker, Clyde Walker, Jr. and Jermaine Person; and her friend Mable Blackwell. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was an CPR Instructor for the American Heart Association and served many years as a Nurse for Dinwiddie County Public Schools.
