He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Mae and Anthony Ely; his former wife Danna Mae Eldridge Ely; and his siblings, Earnest, Joe, Roscoe Ely, Pauline Roberts, Maggie Bishop, Mattie Sargent and Katherine Sargent.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Grace Ely; his children, Teresa Speak of Jonesville, VA, Mike Ely (Jane) of Yadkinville, NC, Judy Ingle (Jerry Ingle) of Jonesville, VA, Johnny Ely of Olin, NC and Cheryl Ely Emory (Brandon) of Danbury, NC; his grandchildren, Aaron Speak (Katie), Kristen Booth (Ted), Arlis Speak, Jordon Ely (Jenny), Will Ely, Meagan Tomlin (Joe), Danna Ely, Jacob Ingle (Chelsea), Jessica Wilder and Jonathan Ely (Whitney); his great grandchildren, Luke, Violet Speak, Eliza, Daisy, Emeline Booth, Cole, Paislee Tomlin, Daniel, Mason, Levi, Vera Mae Wilder, Bentley Ely, Seth and Ethan Emory; and his sister Shirley Lawson.
