He was predeceased by: his wife Anna Mae Sluss; his parents, Ceary Sluss and Maude Sluss; his siblings, Vernon Sluss, Curtis Sluss, Wayne Sluss and Helen Ray; and his daughter Debbie Newman (George Partin).
He is survived by: his children, Carl Sluss (Valerie), Sherie Birkenbach (Gary), Roger Sluss (Sabrina) and Bobby Stapleton; and his siblings, Thelma Perry, Naomie Fields and Gary Sluss. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
