He is survived by: his wife Mildred Napier Ely; his children, Adam Dwayne Ely, Natasha Nicole Ely and Tiffany Shepherd; his grandchildren, RaChone, Brandon and KayLynne; his siblings, Myra Blankenship (James), Noreen Ely, Mouse Smith, Phillip Ely, David Ely (Joella) and Tammy Ely; his close friend Tracy Rhoton; and his aunt Shirley McKinney. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
