He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Ulma of Pelham, NC.; his son Joseph Purnell of Asheboro, NC.; his siblings, Pamela Hanks of Union Hall, VA., James and Matthew Ulma of Callaway, VA.; his nieces and nephews, James Ulma Jr., William Ulma, Elise Faverio, Samantha Hanks and Jaida Ann Marie Ulma; his great-niece Paisley Ulma; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Lewis, Jr. and Shelia Williams.
