It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ernest Garland Hughes of Patrick Springs, Virginia, who passed away on July 25, 2022, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his father William Leonard Hughes; and his brother Gilmer Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Essie Hubbard Hughes; his children, Kathy Dalton (Gary) of Stuart and Perry Hughes (Dianne) of Stuart; his grandchildren, Corey Meador (Brad) of Vinton, Sarah Sawyers (Justin) of Brentwood, Erica Nowlin (Chris) of Summerfield, Kara Pilson (Elliott) of Stuart and Morgan Morrison (Preston) of Apex; his great grandchildren, Cale Meador, Jace Meador, Emmett Nowlin and Elizabeth Sawyers; and his siblings, Melvin Hughes (Elaine) of Patrick Springs, Marvin Hughes of Stuart, Alvin Hughes (Jean) of Woolwine, Silvia Smith (James) of Pelham and Donnie Hughes (Linda) of Stuart. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
