He was predeceased by: his parents, Royce Landon Hughes Sr. and Pearl Brown Hughes; his son-in-law John Wayne Herndon; his sister Brenda Patrick; and his grandson John R. Herndon.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Highlander Hughes of Orange; his children, Carolyn Herndon of Barboursville, Melisa Sacra of Orange, David Wayne Hughes (Ann) of Stoneville, NC and Landon Phillip Hughes (Amy) of Aroda; and his grandsons, Joshua Herndon (Emily), Phillip Hughes, Andrew Hughes and Ethan Hughes (Andrea). He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
