He was predeceased by: his wife Josephine Pate "Jo Sue" Matthews; his parents, Tully J. Matthews and Annie L. Matthews; and his siblings, Wilma Clayton, Beulah Lewis, Lawrence Matthews and Harvey Parker.
He is survived by: his daughter Clara Blanche; his sister L. Pate Matthews (De) of Hebron, MD; his grandsons, Clay Reese of Washington, D. C. and Brian Reese of Norfolk, VA; and his niece Faye Clayton of Virginia Beach, VA..
