He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Thomas Hickman and Helen Thompson Hickman; and his siblings-in-law, Michael T. Melton, Sr., Marianne M. Goetting and Dickye P. Hickman.
He is survived by: his daughter Susan H. Mason (John E. Mason II); his granddaughters, Eleanor D. "Ellie" Mason of Accomac, VA and Anne T. Mason of Accomac, VA; his brother Thomas A. Hickman, Sr.; his nephews, T. A. Hickman, Jr. (Alice), Philip T. Hickman (Susanna), Timothy Goetting (Amy) and Michael T. Melton, Jr.; and his niece Alison L. Melton.
