Apostle Govan Thomas Thomas ("Bunny") Snead Sr. Obituary

Govan Thomas Snead, Sr., son of Hannah Snead Deshields, was born April 13, 1952 in Salisbury, Maryland. He was transitioned from Earth to Glory on March 16, 2010, after a brief illness, at Riverside Hospital in Nassawadox, Virginia. Govan was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He was employed by Whispering Pines Motel, as a bellboy, from there he was employed by Perdue Farms where he was truck driver.

Govan T. Snead Sr. was united in Holy Matrimony to Wanda Johnson on August 19, 1972 . Through this union he was blessed with Govan Jr., Takasha, and Dalton. Govan, played the trumpet (and he also tried to play the drums), he loved fishing and traveling but his baby was cooking and barbequing. Bunny as known by his mom and family, Bishop by some, and Apostle by others would cook a meal and invite friends and family over just to try some new spices or a fancy dish.

Govan moved to Salisbury with his family and joined Salisbury Evangelistic Church of Deliverance where he received Christ as he started his walk with the Lord under the tutelage and leadership of Apostle Margaret Johnson and the late Bishop James Johnson. He served many years as a layman, attending Sunday school, and Bible Study.

He soon became a deacon and was given the title and responsibility of armor bearer. He later was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel. Apostle heard the call to go back to Virginia, where he founded Faith Christian Tabernacle Ministries in Parksley, Virginia along with his wife Wanda Snead. He had a passion for teaching and felt that education was essential.

From that Faith Bible Institute was established. He would often say "knowledge is power." He encouraged, inspired, birthed and fathered many spiritual children. He was full of spiritual wisdom and knowledge; his firm, yet compassionate leadership, helped to developed many great leaders of Tabernacle Ministries in Parksley, VA.

Apostle Snead was a man of great vision; God blessed the vision and saw that it was good and International Covenant Ministries was born. Apostle received Biblical schooling from Cumberland Bible Institute in Bridgeton, NJ and Evangelical Training Association. Apostle Snead was a preacher of the Gospel, he not only preached the Gospel but he lived his life accordingly.

Apostle Snead"s mission was to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through various means of outreach such as prison ministry, radio, revivals, teaching, education, and missionary work. Apostle Snead wanted to equip the saints with spiritual tools needed to live a victorious life through biblical principles and to help the saints become fully aware of their purpose in Christ.

He is survived by Wanda Snead, his devoted wife of 38 years; mother, Hannah Deshields of Salisbury MD; his spiritual mother Apostle Margaret Johnson of Upper Hill , Maryland, two sons, Govan Snead Jr. (Teresa) of Accomac, VA and Dalton Snead of Onancock, VA; one daughter, Takasha Howell (Lonnie) of Newport News, VA; seven grandchildren ; Alicia Snead, Alexea Snead, Josiah Disharoon, Tristan Howell, Brashawn Bailey, Keshawn Bailey and Lonnie Salone; god-children, Samuel, Vincent , Robert, Ken, Kennneth, Dawn, Connie, Norleshia, Kee Kee, and Sharna; two brothers; Darius Deshields of Tocoma Washington and Reginald Shockley of Colorado Springs, CO; four sisters, Sharina Duffy (Winfield), Sheila Washington, Leontyne Beaty (Eugene) all of Salisbury MD, and Barbara Kamara of Exmore VA; two aunts, Margaret Kelsaw of Parsonburg MD and Dyza Johnson of Trenton, NJ; one uncle Frankie Snead (Diane); mother- in- law, Irene Allen of Accomac VA; three brothers-in-law, Henry Johnson (Sharon) of Accomac VA, Robert Scarborough (Tish) of Wachapreague VA and Paul Poulson (Jackie) of Bayside VA; two sisters-in-law; Denise Needam, and Michele Copes and a host of nieces nephews, relatives and friends and the Faith Christian Tabernacle Church family and The International Covenant Ministries as a whole.
