He was predeceased by: his parents, Lum Howard Childress and Nona Agnes Childress (Elswick) of Oakwood, Virginia.; his wife Virginia Juanita Childress; his sons, Sammy Carroll Dye, Edward Howard Childress and Larry Wayne Childress; his granddaughter Kathy Dye Rose; and his siblings, Jack Childress, Carol Horn, Faye Childress and Bernice Childress.
He is survived by: his sons, David Garland Childress (Amy) of Tazewell, Virginia and Michael Thomas Childress of Tazewell, Virginia; his grandchildren, Sandy Jackson, Daphne Childress, Sara Andrews (John), Mandy Gates (Matt), Kelly Waddle, Marlea Childress and Luke Harland Childress; and his siblings, Ralph Childress (Joyce), Woodrow Childress, Roger Childress (Bonnie), Cecil Childress, Betty Horn and Gladys McClanahan. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
